Technical information on dynamos

It is always very important to test the dynamo and the regulator. Both must be repaired or changed together if necessary.

The output of a dynamo can be tested with a voltmeter :

             Place a length of wire between the terminals of the dynamo.
             Connect your voltmeter between the terminals and "ground".
             Turn on the ignition and slowly accelerate to double the idle speed of your vehicle.
             If the dynamo is in perfect condition: the voltmeter will display between 12 and 14V.
             If the needle does not stabilize: carbon or switch may be the cause.
             If the voltmeter does not indicate anything: unplug the terminals; connect to "ground" and re-test.
